The South African Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors announced that the Building Construction and Allied Workers Union (BCAWU) have accepted the wage offer tabled by employers in the civil engineering and construction industry last week.
- This offer allows for a 10% wage increase for categories Task Grade 1 to 4, and an 8% wage increase for categories Task Grade 5 to 9.
- The agreement signed between Safcec and BCAWU remains operational until August 31, 2016.
- Safcec president, Norman Milne commented that 'We believe this sets an example to other sectors currently experiencing labour unrest.
- We hope that work on affected projects will restart as quickly as possible and that every effort will be made to make up for any delay, for the benefit of our clients'
