MEC winde visits construction sites on unnounced inspections

The Western Cape Provincial Government has reaffirmed their support of the Building Industry Bargaining Council's call for compliance to the industry's Collective Agreement.

Alan Winde, Provincial Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism has been proactive by joining the BIBC's compliance agents on 8 May 2012 in the Bellville Area, on various unannounced site visits, to observe firsthand the difficulties faced by the BIBC in enforcing the Collective Agreement.

  • In addition to the show of support, the Provincial Government are presently in the process of adjusting their tendering documents as well as investigating current contracts to ensure that only compliant contractors have been engaged.
  • The main focus of these site inspections is to ensure that all the employees on the site are paid at the required rates and receiving the social benefits as prescribed by the Collective Agreement.
  • The MEC's support will shows the industry that there'll be no leniency and that it's expected of all contractors to comply
